_Debutante Ball Notice The Advertiser 3 September 1955 It
was a pretty scene as 21 debutantes, dressed in white stepped through
an Unley high School badge, at the old scholar's ball in the Palais last
night. They were presented to Mrs Baden Pattinson, wife of the
Minister of Education. She wore a magnificent gown of white satin
heavily embroidered with pearls and beads in a rose design, The bodice
was styled with an off-shoulder swathe. CARRY POSIES The girls who
all carried posies tied with cream satin ribbons, were Misses Annette
Bongard, Janice Hewitt, Barbara Newcombe, Judith Stott, Jeanette Martin,
Ruth Evans, Aileen Bruce, Helen Spry, Kay Thyer, Glenys Brook, Vivian
Blinman, Margaret Hill, Beverley Fullston, Elaine Grenekle, Marion
Jantke, Wendy West, Maxine Lewis, Pat Sobey, Glenda Hall, Leonie Everard
and Judith Moyle. PARTY GUESTS Among invited guests in the
official party were the school principal (Mr L. Carthew) and Mrs
Carthew, Mr and Mrs J. Braunstall, Mr and Mrs E.R. Smith, Mr and Mrs
W.L. Freeman, Mr and Mrs L.W. Cockshell, old scholars president (Mr Ian
Mortess) and secretary (Miss Jessica Heairfield). Several parties were
held before the ball, many for debutantes, Mrs David S. Gordon gave a
buffet dinner at Lower Mitcham for her son David and his friends.
