KAVANAGH - NUGENT
Wedding Notice West Coast Sentinel 30th June 1917 KAVANAGH - NUGENT -On June 26th, at the bride's home, by the Rev. Father Kett, Martin Kavanagh, son of Mr and Mrs Brown, of Kuldala, Streaky Bay, to Helena A., youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Nugent, of Challner, Streaky Bay. Tuesday, the 26th inst., was a day of intense excitement at Mr and Mrs T. Nugent's farm, when their youngest daughter Helena A., was united in matrimony to Mr. M. Cavanagh, of Broken Hill. The Rev. Father Kett officiated. The ceremony took place at 10-30a.m. The bride, dressed in white crepe de chene, with lining of pink on sleeves and train, and with a dainty mob cap and long veil, carrying a prayer book from which floated streamers tipped with orange blossom, looked exceedingly charming, and with her train bearer, little Doreen McDonald, dressed in a manner to blend in color, made a pretty picture; and add to that the bridesmaid, Miss Margery Simmons, garbed in a pink silk dress, trimmed with Oriental insertions, pink hat trimmed with fur to match, and carrying a bouquet of asparagus fern and geraniums, and one can imagine the result. Mr Harold Brown, brother of the groom, acted as best man. The bride and bridegroom received many handsome presents and also cheques. Miss M Simmons was the recipient of a handsome heavy gold bangle, and Miss D, McDonald received a very pretty brooch, both those being presents from the groom. About fifty guests were present, and great was the fun thereon during the sumptuous repast - usually called a wedding breakfast, at 1p.m. A little later in the afternoon the good old custom of "toasting" the married couple and principal parties interested took place. The bride cut the first slice from a huge cake - really it was a great shae to destroy such a beautiful piece of confectionary! - and, when everyone's glass had been charged with wine, Father Kett started the running by "toasting" the bride and bridegroom. Following that, Mr T. McDonald called for the health of the bridesmaid, Mr Hereen senr., proposed the health of Mr and Mrs Brown (parents of the bridegroom), and Mr O. Withall wished the same to Mr and Mrs T. Nugent. The groom, Mr Kavanagh, responded on behalf of his wife and self, as also did Mr. Brown. At 4p.m. the party broke up, Mr and Mrs Kavanagh leaving in Mr. Chas. Nugent's motor car for Maryvale station, where Mr and Mrs McDonald had arranged an evening to enable more friends to say au revoir before the young couple leave for their future home. The bride's travelling dress was a brown tweed coat and skirt, trimmed with fur. Great was the send off they had from Challiner, amidst showers of rice and shouts of good wished, and with old boots dangling at the corners of the car.
Thanks Notice West Coast Sentinel 7th July 1917 Mr and Mrs T. Nugent, of Challiner, wish to thank all friends for their many acts of kindness on the occasion of their daughter's marriage. Thanks Notice West Coast Sentinel 21st July 1917 Mr and Mrs M. Kavanagh, of Broken Hill, desire to sincerely thank all friends for good wishes and presents received on the occasion of their wedding.
