Wedding Notice Advertiser 4 June 1901 London, Mav 3, 1901 Miss Maud Francis Wright, second daughter of the late Mr. Frederick Wright, of Adelaide, was led to the altar of the parish church at White Colne, Essex, on April 30, by Mr. John Hills, second son of Mr. Harris Hills, of Berewyk Hall, White Colne, and second officer of the Orient liner Austral, which only docked at Tilbury on the Sunday preceding its popular "second's" nuptials. Owing to the absence of the bride's family, who reside in Adelaide, the Wedding was a quiet one, but, despite its quietude, it was very pretty in character. The church had been decorated in a pleasing manner with palms, Aram lilies, daffodils, lilies, and other flowers. The ceremony was fixed for half-past 1 p.m., and at that hour the bride arrived with her father-in-law. Her dress was of ivory satin, trimmed with lace, chiffon, and orange blossom. She also wore a coronet of orange blossom and a tulle veil, her principal ornament being a pearl necklace and pendant, and she carried a white shower bouquet of choice blooms, the gift of her mother. The bride was attended by Miss Dorothea Hills, the sister of the bridegroom, who wore a gown of mauve crepe-de-chine, with white fichu and black picture hat. She carried a bouquet of narcissi, and wore an opal pin, the gift of the bridegroom. In the absence, through illness, of the brde's guardian, General Sherer, Miss Wright was given away by Mr. Harris Hills, Mr. Alfred Hills, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. The service was fully choral, and at its conclusion the vicar addressed a few words to the newly married couple. He observed that it was often said marriage was a lottery, but where true love existed, and each understood the heart of the other, this could not be said. He then addressed a few words of advice to both bride and bridegroom, and said he believed they had found the highest ideal of the new relation into which they had entered, and trusted they would seek from God the help necessary to maintain it. Outside the church had assembled a number of friends, who greeted the bride and bridegroom with daffodils and primroses as they proceeded to the church gate. Later in the day the newly-married pair left for London, where part of the honey-moon is being spent. The bride's traveling dress was a tailor-made coat and skirt of turquoise blue frieze, with cream tucked chiffon vest, and tuscan hat trimmed vith pink roses and black velvet. The presents to the happy pair were very numerous, and included many handsome items. Among the South Australian gifts Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
