NUNAN Lydia
Death Notice Naracoorte Herald 23 January 1950 NUNAN - On January 22nd at Kingston Memorial Hospital, Lydia, dearly beloved wife of George Nunan and loving mother of Ken. Aged 68 years. At Rest Obituary Notice Naracoorte Herald 9 March 1950 Mount Benson, March 8 The late Mrs George Nunan, who passed away at the Kingston Soldier's Memorial Hospital on January 21, was born in Cornwall in 1863. Mrs Nunan (nee Lydia Tubb-Martin) came with her parents to Australia at the age of three, and landing at Port Adelaide, came overland through the Coorong to Mount Benson. Her parents in conjunction with the late Mr. Bill Christian, had purchased a property known as Wattle Villa from the late Mr. Robert Stockdale. Mr Martin did not live long to administer the property, and after the death of Mrs Martin a few years later it was left to Miss Lydia to carry on and look after the home, which she did quite successfully. Years later she moved to another property near her late home, where she carried on dairying until she married Mr. Geo. Nunan. They then acquired another property where they lived happily together for 48 years.. Mrs Nunan was a keen and capable horsewoman, and won many prizes in the show ring. Among her mounts were those good horses Haphazard, Onkaparinga and necho. She also jusged indoor exhibits at many shows, including Naracoorte and Lucindale. She was also a steward in the Methodist Church, in which she took a great interest. During her younger years she took a great interest in the welfare of the district and helped in many ways to have the Mount Benson Hall built. It was through the efforts of Mrs Nunan that many of the younger generation were able to complete their education in her home where school was held for many years, and she boarded the many different teachers, even after the Mount Benson School was transfered to the Hall. Her gradually failing health caused Mrs. Nunan to give up most of these activities for the welfare of the district where she had spent most of her life. Besides her husband, the deceased leaves one son, Kenneth, and two grandchildren. One sister Mrs. M. Parker, of Peterhead, survives her. The body of the late Mrs Nunan was interred in the Kingston cemetery.
